bakery caseSuzanne dreamed of having a family restaurant for over 30 years.  Even as a girl, she would "help" Grandma in the kitchen and attributes her love of cooking to that special time.

When she married her husband, Mark, they would often talk of opening a restaurant or a bed and breakfast.  But those dreams were abruptly put on hold. When their first son, Alex, was two years old, he was diagnosed with cancer.

Suzanne's mom had a collie dog named Daisy.  She sensed Alex was sick before the family did.  Daisy decided she was his protector. If strangers came in to see the baby, Daisy wouldn't let them. Sadly, when Alex was about three years old, Daisy died. Suzanne told her friends and family that someday she would open a restaurant and would name it "Daisy's Lunchbox" in honor of the dog who watched over her son.  Twenty-five years later, Suzanne fulfilled that promise.

At age 50, Mark experienced a job loss. During the following year of unemployment, he learned how to cook.  They decided to take the generous severance package and start a restaurant. It began in the back of The Bee's Knees thrift market, but soon moved to their current location on Searcy's courthouse square. Suzanne's dad drove from California at the age of 74 to help.  He hung shelves, built cabinets, and handled anything else that required hammers, nails and drills.

Each morning, while Suzanne prepares the cinnamon rolls and baked goods, her husband Mark does much of the prep work for the other dishes.  Her sons Alex and Ben, and her daughter-in-law Kailyn, have worked in the family business at various times.  The restaurant has also provided employment for many high school and college students in the community over the years.

Come and enjoy the flavors this family-owned small business can whip up for you!
